Magnificent Monday!

Parents please have your child come in rain boots for the next couple of weeks. It is mucky and muddy outside so rain boots will be the best choice. They are also easy to slip on and off. Thank you so much!

We began the day having French with Mdm. Stella.

After we continued to inquire into the different techniques that are used in various forms of media.

We looked at the 4 different kinds of media that we discussed last week.
Walmart Flyer:

We focused on the techniques used in each. Here is what we observed/heard:

Afterwards, we learned about the different gimmicks that are used in advertisements by creating a website for a cereal box. We chose the theme for the website. Companies often use magical locations for their Websites to make them exciting places to visit. We chose a catchy phrase. We picked a spokes character; a lot of kids like animals, so they are often used.  A great way to get kids to remember the product is by playing with it, so we chose to add a create your own cereal option box to our website. We also added an option to join the Co-Co club so that kids will come back often.

Students can play this again at home:

We also learned how the appearance of a product on TV, may not always look the same when we buy it. For example, we looked at a McDonalds burger that looked so yummy but then we saw a picture of what it actually looks like and it is not the same. We came to the conclusion that companies often make their products look better in advertisements so people want to buy or use it.

We then made paper clocks to help us learn about time.

After first recess and lunch, we had physical education with Ms. Lovan.

We then continued working on our clocks. We reviewed that the small hand on the clock is the hour hand; the hour hand determines the hour from 1-12. We also discussed the minute hand. We know that when counting around the clock, we can count by ones, or we can make it easier and count by 5s’. We practiced counting by 5 up until 60 and then filled in our own clocks counting by 5. After, we practiced telling time using our clocks.

After we began writing an advertisement for a donut individually. We began using our graphic organizers to express all of our ideas about our new donut.

Following second recess and lunch, we wrote our homework in our agendas and then worked on unit 8 lesson words.

Homework:
11.  Read for 20minutes
22.  Cursive 28-29
3 3. Spelling pg. 33-36
4 4. Practice Guy Fawkes poem
