Terrific Tuesday!

If you would like your child to participate in casual day tomorrow, please bring back the form that was sent home today along with 2 dollars. You will be helping Brian, a boy from Kenya to go to school!

Structure Information

Students will bring in a photo of a structure they are familiar with. They will research information about their structure, including the materials used to build it, it’s location and it’s function (what an object is used for). Students will present their structure to the class on Friday, December 11, 2015.

We began the day having French with Mdm. Stella.

After we explored the effects that various forces and loads have upon objects, materials, and structures. Students can continue this exploration at home:
Students then had Art with Ms. Kerr.

When students returned, we learned what happens to a number when we add 10. We began by using the number 13 with ten frames. We noticed that there are 10 counters inside the frame and 3 outside. We then added another ten frame and figured out that the sum would now be 23. On the hundred’s chart, when we added ten to our number, we found that in order to find the answer, we just needed to go down the column that our number was in. For example, if we began with the number 7 and added 10, the answer is 17, which is found under the 7 on the hundred’s chart. We also noticed that when we add 10 to a number, the number in the one’s column does not change and the number in the tens column increases by one. We then showed our understanding in our Math Makes Sense book.
We were also challenged to add 20 and 30 to specific numbers following the pattern that we already know when we add 10.

After, we learned how to write a recipe. We first discussed that a recipe is a set of instructions for making food. We then explored how to write a proper recipe, ensuring all the steps are in order. We reviewed a recipe for a Chicken Sandwich. We noticed that the recipe includes the ingredients you will need, tools you will need, and then the directions. Students then chose a recipe and began working on their plan.

At the end of the day, we practiced for the Christmas Concert.
