Fantastic Friday!

The St. Jude's Academy Christmas concert is quickly approaching!  The students are excited to share the performances that they have been busily preparing.  The Christmas concert is taking place on December 21st.  There will be two performances on this date.  The first performance takes place at noon, and the second performance takes place at 7pm.  Families are welcome to attend either (or both!) performance times.
During the evening performance, the class Christmas baskets organized by the Parent Guild will be available by raffle.  There will also be refreshments available by purchase.  Please come prepared to participate in these exciting events!

We began the day having French with Mlle. Jessica.

We then had our spelling test.

Next, we had physical education with Mr. H.

When we returned, we reviewed how to add two digit numbers and then explored how to subtract two digit numbers.

When adding and subtracting, we need to make sure to begin with the ones column.

When subtracting we need to keep in mind that sometimes we may need to borrow from the neighbour next door:

    24
- 19
________[we cannot take 9 away from 4 so we need to borrow from the tens column]
  24 (the 2 represents 20)
- 19 (the 1 represents 10)

  24
- 19

First we need to borrow 10 from the 20 and give it to the 4.
20-10=10

We then give the 10 to the 4: 10 +4 =14

We can now subtract 14 from 9 and that gives us 5.

  24
- 19
_______
     5

Since we borrowed 10 from the 20, the 2 now becomes a 1.

 14
-19
_____
  05

Here is another strategy:

We then worked on subtraction activities.

Following first recess and lunch, we had Music.

Next, we continued working on our math activities to gain a better understanding of subtracting two-digit numbers.

After second recess and lunch, we learned how to write a proper note and then we wrote our own.

Arnav then presented his cultural flag:

Next, we sang Happy Birthday to Kareena!!! Happy Birthday Kareena!!

Then we joined Ms. Baimas’ class. Yesterday we decided that we would do something similar to secret santa between both our classes; this activity is called colourful friends (we related this activity back to our cultures unit). Each of us was given the opportunity to secretly pick one friend and until the end of the year, we will do our best to do and say kind things to the colourful friend that we picked. What a great way to celebrate the holiday season!
