Magnificent Monday!

Dear SJA Families,

We are very excited for our annual Junior Kindergarten to Grade 2 Christmas Concert. Please see the attached poster for more details.

On December 10, 2019, students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 2 will put on two performances at the St. Jude’s Dome. Our afternoon performance will begin at 1:00 pm, with doors opening at 12:30. Our evening performance will begin at 6:30 pm, with doors opening at 6:15 pm. Seating is on a first come first serve basis.  Please keep in mind that outside food and drinks are not permitted in the Dome.

Please ensure students are in their classroom at 5:30 pm for the evening performance.

For our evening performance, families are welcome to take our shuttle from St. Jude’s to the Dome and back. Shuttles will begin running from 6:00-7:00 pm.

We encourage all families to come bundled up to stay warm and cozy for the entire show. The students and teachers have put a tremendous amount of work into their performances and kindly ask that all families stay and enjoy the show until the end.

We look forward to seeing you all there!

We began the day writing writing the final assessment for Unit 4: Fractions and Decimals.

Then students finished working on their DRA survey discussing;

-books read recently
-strengths
-areas of improvement during the reading process.

Next students wrote their Ontario Writing pre-assessment: Persuasive Letter

After, students were very excited to work on their art project for this UOI unit. Students will be working on Haida Art!

Following first recess and lunch we had French.

Next, we went over all of our learning from last week from UOI.

We continued to explore different theories and perspectives as to how First Nations People came to North America. We talked about various creation stories, the Bering Land Bridge theory and even how some scientist believe we all came from Africa!

We continued to read about the Bering Land Bridge theory and worked on an activity to show our understanding of this theory.

Then we discussed the climate and physical regions of Canada and how this effects how First Nations People live in that specific region. We worked in groups to read about and fill out a chart related to Aboriginal groups and their environment (climate, landforms, vegetations, plant, animal, food, clothing and shelter.

Finally, we read legends from various First Nations groups and worked in groups to discuss the characterises and lessons being taught through the legends.

Homework:

1.     Read Daily
2.     Finish chart on legend
3.     Novel study chapters 11, 12, 13

4.     Pick First Nations group for Powtoon project
