Marvelous Monday!!!

We began the day with math today. Today our focus was to activate our prior learning about collecting, displaying, and analysing data. We looked at a bar graph and a pictograph and discussed the information that was provided in both graphs.

Then we looked at an example in our math text book. David wanted to know the winter activities that his classmates enjoyed and so he decided to do a survey and take a tally of the results. We were asked: How many students did David and his friend survey? (81). How do you know? (I added all the tally marks).Which outdoor winter activity do the greatest number of students participate in? (tobogganing) How do you know? (It has the greatest number of tally marks). What survey question might the students have asked to get the data in the chart? (What is your favourite outdoor winter activity? Skating _____ Skiing ____ Snowboarding _____ Tobogganing____). Students were then asked, how could we graph the date? (We could use a bar graph or a pictograph.) Which graph is most suitable for the date? (Both a bar graph and a pictograph are suitable. In a bar graph, the tallest or longest bar would represent the favourite activity. In a pictograph the activity with the greatest number of pictures would represent the favourite activity. A circle graph could be used but it might be difficult to divide into 4 sections to represent the numbers on the tally chart). Students then used the tally chart to create a bar graph and a pictograph.

Next we had French with Mdm. Stella.

After first recess and lunch, we completed a reading survey for our developmental reading assessment.

Then we had Music with Mr. Oliver.

When students returned they continued to work on their DRA or OWA.

After second recess and lunch, we discussed Listening Note-Taking Skillswith the class.

Students then used these tips provided to take notes while watching a video on the forms of energy.
Students watched the Forms of Energy Videoon YouTube. They made notes on lined paper as they watched.

At the end of the day we discussed our science fair and end of unit project, we will be building a car using our knowledge from our current unit of inquiry!
