Tremendous Thursday!

We began the day with visual arts. We all created art pieces that described something about ourselves, including something that makes each of us special and unique.

Afterwards, students had physical education with Miss. Lovan.

After physical education, students continued to work on their art piece.

Then we began our unit of inquiry: How we organize ourselves – Coming Together in the Community.  We joined Miss. Dacosta’s grade two class and discussed how communities all over the world can be similar and different. Afterwards, we took a walk around our community and students were asked to pay attention to the different features that make up our community. One of the features that make up our community is a park and students were given some time to play after they could each answer something that they had seen on our community walk.

Here are some of the things we saw:

Following first recess and lunch, students had French with Mme. Stella.

Afterwards, students were each given an agenda where they wrote down their homework. We also continued working on our essential agreement in the classroom consisting of important rules and responsibilities we all share.

Following second recess and lunch, the whole school took part in a house game. Students were chosen from each grade and house to play musical chairs in order to win points for their house. We had lots of fun cheering on our housemates!

At the end of the day, students presented their art piece and explained more about who they are, experiences that they have had, and what they like. Students spoke about the countries they have been to or lived in, which led to a connection with our UOI unit; we were exploring the map looking for Ireland, Nigeria and India. We were all able to learn more about each country and how communities are similar and different from Canada. For example, in India and Nigeria it is hotter than Canada so people dress differently. We will explore other communities in the world in the coming weeks and how they are similar and different to Canada.

Homework:

1. Read pages 3-19 in agendas with parents
2. Read for 20 minutes
3. Lunch forms due tomorrow
4. Spirit day dress up tomorrow
