Wonderful Wednesday!

This morning students had art with Mr. Monaghan and physical education with Ms. Lovan.

During our unit of inquiry, we went over what we learned about yesterday and refreshed our memories about the similarities and differences between Igloolik, Nunavut and Vancouver, British Columbia. Afterwards, we watched a video called “If the world were a village of 100 people.” In this video, we learned how many people would come from each continent based on how big or small the population is in each continent. We found out that 61 people would come from Asia! We inquired why this was and figured out that because it is the biggest continent, the most people would come from there. We learned only 5 people would come from Canada. We used our inquiry skills and decided this was because in Canada it can be really cold and more people will want to live where it is warmer.

We also learned how to say hello in the eight languages that are spoken the most in the world. Watch us, watch the video, and repeat how to say hello in eight different languages!

(We recorded these videos at lunch. Students really enjoyed watching and learning about the different continents and languages in the world!)

After we continued learning about patterning in math. As a class, we first went over the examples of attributes (colour, shape, direction, size). We then reminded ourselves the different ways of representing a pattern (shape, letters, numbers, colour, symbols, words, direction). Using this knowledge, we made our own patterns with counting cubes and found three different ways to represent them. Students applied this knowledge in their math makes sense workbook.

After first lunch and recess students had French.

When students returned they wrote their homework in their agenda and then worked on a nouns and adjective worksheet.

After second recess and lunch, students continued their journal entry from last week, discussing three or four things they did over the summer. Students were asked to provide detail and answer who, what, where, when, why, and how. I have been reading about some really exciting summers!!

Homework:

1.     Spelling Test on Friday
2.     Math Test next Tuesday
3.     Fall Festival Form

4.     Noun and Adjective worksheet
