Terrific Thursday!

Family Tree Presentation:

Students are to complete the two sheets that went home Monday. Students are to fill out the family tree sheet and be prepared to present tomorrow. Students are also asked to come up with another symbol to represent their family tree. They are to draw this symbol on the blank sheet going home and fit all their family members on it (only immediate family: brother, sister, mother, father); students will explain why they chose their symbol to the class during their short presentation. An example: My family likes to go camping a lot and we use the canoe to go fishing so I decided to use a canoe as a symbol for my family and put all my family members on each paddle.

Country Celebration Presentation:

Students will choose a country (this can be from their own culture) and research a celebration within this country. They are to include:

1. The dates of the celebration
2. Important people who are responsible for the celebration/important people that are a part of this celebration
3. A symbol associated with this celebration (Ex: Christmas – a Christmas tree)
4. 2 facts about this celebration
5. A gift giving tradition within this country
6. 2-3 other traditions in this country

Students are to do the research at home and they will do the writing portion at school Monday, March 2, 2015. They will present on Wednesday, March 4, 2015.

We began the day watching the poetry contest. All the students did a fantastic job!!! Klara won first place from all the Grade 2’s!!

After the contest, we had Math. We looked at picture of a spaceship in the Big Math Book. We noticed the various 3-D shapes that were being used. We then built our own space ship using  play dough; we needed to make sure that we used the exact same shapes as the astronauts did.

After first recess and lunch, we wrote our homework in our agendas. We then went to watch the speeches in the gym.

After second recess and lunch, we wrote a story about our favourite celebration. We needed to ensure that we gave information about the celebration and that our story had a beginning, middle, and end.

Homework:

1.     Read for 20 minutes
2.     Family Tree Presentation tomorrow
3.     Information for celebration due Monday
4.     Sign Rubric
5.     Math Test Tuesday

6.     Read Comprehension questions
