Marvelous Monday!

The Grade Ones will be turning their classrooms into grocery stores for our Organization unit. The students have been working really hard to stock it full of healthy snacks and drinks. Tomorrow they will be opening their stores to SJA classes to purchase healthy snacks and drinks for $1-2. All proceeds will be donated to the Sick Kids Hospital.

We began the day having French with Mlle. Jessica.

We then learned that Mr. Sawatsky had a very important task for us!! He received a very important letter and he needed our help to complete this project!!! Our job was to survey and tally the class cultures from grades 1-3 based on the 7 continents. We were so excited to do this special project for Mr. Sawatsky.

First the students decided how they would split themselves up so that we had three groups to survey the three grade 3 classes. We then needed to figure out how we would go about conducting our survey. We realized we needed to bring with us a tally chart so that we can record the information. We also decided a leader and speaker roles. After, each group went to survey one class. When students returned they came up with one question and true statement based on their information.

Following first recess and lunch we explored a holiday coming up very soon, Chinese New Year. We learned about the origins and about each animal part of the zodiac. We watched a video and read a story to gain a better understanding of this holiday. We then worked in groups to inquire into the twelve animals part of the zodiac and the personality traits associated with each animal.

After we had Music with Mr. Oliver.

We then worked in groups to inquire into the twelve animals part of the zodiac and the personality traits associated with each animal. We identified our own Chinese Zodiac based upon our year of birth. We described in partners how we are similar and different to our zodiac. We then picked our favourite animal and described why.

After second recess and lunch, students chose one of the animals from the Chinese zodiac and they made a mask. We will use our masks for an upcoming activity.
