Marvelous Monday!

We began the day working on our spelling words for the week.

Then we had French and Gym.

After first recess and lunch we had Music.

When we returned we, learned about interpreting data on a bar graph and a circle graph. We looked at a bar graph and circle graph showing the same information about what we like to do after school. We discussed: What data do the graphs show?
- How would you describe a circle graph? (It is a circle divided into parts. It is like a pie that has been cut into pieces.)
- How can you tell what the favourite thing to do is by looking at the bar graph? (It has the longest bar.)
-How can you tell what the favourite thing to do is by looking at the circle graph? (Look at the part covered most on the circle). Students were also asked:  what does the bar graph show and the circle graph?
(Bar graph tells the number of children that chose each activity, you can order from most to least popular, can find out how many children were asked, Circle graph only tells how popular an activity is, and order the activities). We concluded that the graphs show the same data in two different ways. We can use the bar graph to know the exact number of children who like a specific activity and we can use the circle graph to discuss the results in fractions (1 whole, 1/2, 1/3, and 1/4 ). We realized it is not good to use a circle graph when you want to know specific numbers. We then worked on some activities interpreting circle and bar graphs.

After second recess and lunch we talked about the importance of practicing a lock down at school. We then practiced one as a class. We will practice a full school lock down tomorrow.

Next we began our Science Fair project!! We will be exploring water, fresh and salt water and the difference between the two. We watched a magic school video about water and also a YouTube video about fresh water and salt water. Now that we have our background research, we will make our hypothesis question based on our question: will the objects we place in salt/baking soda/sugar/plain water sink or float?

Homework:
1.     Read for 20 minutes
2.     Spelling pg.
3.     Cursive pg.

4.     Picture forms due tomorrow
