Tremendous Tuesday!!!

We began the day with math.

Learning Goals: to recognize transformation images
3 types of transformations? (Translations, reflections, and rotations)
-What is a translation? (A translation moves a figure along a straight line)
-What is a reflection? (A reflection is a flip. The figure and it image face opposite ways and are the same distance from the mirror line)
-What is a rotation? (A rotation is a turn. The figure and its image may face different ways.)

Students can watch these videos to gain a better understanding of transformations.

We did some examples as a class and answered questions about transformations and how a figure has moved. Students are reminded that we are looking at how the  original figure has moved to create an image.

Success Criteria:

I understand that:
- a figure can be transformed using a translation, a reflection, and a rotation
- a figure and its image under a transformation are congruent
I can identify a:
-translation
-reflection
-rotation
Of a figure
I can draw a:
-translation
-reflection
-rotation
Of a figure

Then we had French.

After first recess and lunch we had Art.

Learning Goal: Students describe what they Group of Seven are and what they tried to accomplish
We watched  The Group of Seven Video by the AGOand then shared our thoughts. What is meant by ‘Group of Seven? What were they trying to accomplish? How did they do this? What was the subject of their work? Do you like this style of painting?”
Students were told that they will be creating their own landscape painting in the style of the Group of Seven on canvas using tempera. They will practice using the elements of colour, shape, and value in their work. They should begin looking at samples of Group of Seven work and find a sample they would like to imitate. It should be an example where colour, shape, and especially value is evident.
Success Criteria:I can ….
-       Describe who the Group of Seven are (7 Toronto-based artists)
-       Describe the subject of their paintings (Canada’s northern wilderness)
-       Describe the purpose of their work
-       Compare their art style to other artists
Form an opinion about their style of work

Then we had Music.

After we dove into the first part of our summative project. We are working in partners to research about the PEPS of a city or province in Canada and we will create a commercial attracting people to come to that city/province based on their PEPS.

Have a great night! See you all at 6:45!
