Tremendous Tuesday!

We began the day reviewing for our math test tomorrow.

Then students finished working on their commercial with their partner, creating a commercial to persuade people to come to their Canadian city of province. I will post these some time this week.

We also had a big conversation about how we are the “lucky ones” and gaining a better understanding of what that means:

If you woke up this morning with more health than illness, you are more fortunate than the million who will not survive this week.
If you have never experienced the danger of war, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.
If you can attend any church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death you are more fortunate than three billion people in the world.
If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of this world.
If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change someplace, you are among the top 8% of the worlds wealthy.
If your parents are still alive and still married you are very rare, even in the United States and Canada.
If you can read this message, you are more fortunate than over two billion people in the world who cannot read at all.

We are using our understanding of developing and developed countries and how to use the HDI (Human Development Index) to determine the ranking of the countries of the world. Knowing this, we picked a developing country for our next summative project. Students received the package that will guide them through this project, ‘The Ambassador’s Tea Party’. We went through the package, ensuring everyone understood the expectations.
Jallone: Burundi
Daniel: South Sudan
Manisha: Liberia
Dolapo: Haiti
Teni: Solomon Islands
Ava: Ethiopia
Thomas: Afghanistan
Rhea: Mali
Suhana: Yemen
Joana: Mozambique
Mona: Sierra Leone
Dean: Djibouti
Aishraya: Malawi
Lillian:Guinea-Bissau
Adam: Burkina Faso
Shivam: Niger
Hannah: Ivory Coast
Matthew: Chad

Students began researching about the PEPS of their developing country in class. They are asked to complete the researching portion for homework.

We also began talking about Exhibition!! We began discussing exhibition guidelines as well as the roles of students, parents, teachers and mentors.
At the end of the day we had physical education with Mr. Orr.
