Magnificent Monday!

This morning we began with spelling. We wrote out our lesson 5 spelling words and showed our understanding of each word by completing our workout pages in our spelling workbook.

After students had physical education with Ms. Lovan.

When students returned we learned about doubles and near doubles in Math. We looked at a picture of dominos that had doubles and near doubles on them. First we found the doubles and figured out the sum. Then we used our knowledge of doubles to figure out the dominos that had near doubles. Afterwards, students completed a page in their Math Makes Sense that helped us learn more about doubles and near doubles. We used counting cubes to help us figure out numbers that are doubles. We kept adding one to each side to make a double.
1+1 = 2 (double)

2+2=4 (double)

3+3 = 6 (double)

4+4 = 8 (double)

5+5 = 10 (double)
6+6=12 (double)
7+7= 14(double)

8+8= 16 (double)

For our unit of inquiry, we continued working on our summative assignment. Today our focus was the food that we would eat in our country.

After first and second recess, we had French.

When students returned, they wrote their homework in their agendas and completed any unfinished work. When that was finished, students did some quiet reading.

After second recess and lunch, we learned about synonyms in Language Arts. We played some games to better understand synonyms. First we played a game where the students sat in a circle and a student would read a word that they have. The students would look to see if they had the matching synonym (I have noisy. Who has the synonym for throw? I have toss. Who has the synonym of cheerful? I have happy. Who has the synonym of save?)

Afterwards, students played go fish in partners with synonyms.

Working On Verbs:

Afterwards, students started making turkeys for thanksgiving. Students used markers to colour a coffee filter, which will be the feathers of the turkey. We sprayed the coffee filters with water. We will work on the rest on Wednesday.

We had a great day learning together!!
