Terrific Thursday!

We began the day having art with Mr. Monaghan and physical education with Ms. Lovan.

When student’s returned, we were learning about temperature in Math. We discussed the different seasons and the weather. We know the hottest season is summer because of the clothing we wear and because of how we feel. We figured out the coldest season is winter because of the clothing we wear and how we feel. We also thought about skating and that we cannot go skating in the summer because the ice will melt; the winter is cold and keeps water frozen so we can go skating. Afterwards, we used a thermometer to see how we can see the temperature changing. We noticed that when the thermometer is put into cold water the red line in the thermometer goes down. We boiled water and saw that when a thermometer is put inside, the red line almost reaches the top of the thermometer.

Afterwards, students practiced their presentation for their UOI projects and then performed them in front of the class. Here we are:

When we were finished, we starting working on a money package. We were colouring and cutting out the different coins in order to make a coin booklet to help us understand each one, how it looks, the name, and the amount.

After first recess and lunch we had French.

When students returned, we wrote our homework in our agendas and then had a discussion about pollution and the different kinds of pollution. We then read a book titled Oil Spill by Melvin Berger. We learned how oil spills can happen by accident when big oil ships are carrying oil over the water. The book also taught us the different way that oil can be cleaned and we noticed that many of the strategies were dangerous and still polluted the water. After second recess and lunch, we performed a science experiment to see if oil could be killed by filtration, like most other polluted water.

Our question was:

Our Hypothesis was:

Our materials were:

We came to the conclusion that garbage, sand, and dirt could be cleaned using a filter but the food colouring (representing oil in water) could not be cleaned.

I was not able to post all the videos because they were too long.

Homework:

1.     Read for 20 minutes
2.     Picture Retake November 25
