Wonderful Wednesday!

I hope you all had a wonderful, relaxing, and magical holiday!

Some updates:
We will be having our next Math test next Wednesday

We will be going to the Science fair to learn more about our current UOI unit. Please return the forms and money by Jan. 15

We began the day having French with Mdm. Stella.

We then moved onto UOI. We first reviewed what we have learned so far. We then performed another experiment to determine if adding weight to the top or bottom of a structure affects its stability. We used a tube with pennies taped to the top and a tube that had pennies taped to the bottom. We made our prediction about which tube would be most stable: the tube with the weight at the top or at the bottom. We then performed our experiment three times. Ms. Jaskolka put each tube on a tray and then she tipped it over. In the first trial, they both fell at the same time. For the second and third trial, the tube with the weight at the top fell first. We learned that adding weight to the top or bottom of a structure affects its stability. Furthermore, if you want to build a tall structure, you should make sure to have a strong foundation.

After first recess and lunch, we had physical education.

We then began learning about writing an explanation: when you are explaining about something (example: how something looks, feels, acts, how to do something). We then discussed how a paragraph provides an explanation about a certain topic. We will be learning how to write an explanation using paragraphs. Today we focused on the topic sentence. The topic sentence introduces what our paragraph will be about. We did some examples as a class and then students made their own topic sentences.

During math, we continued practicing two digit addition and subtraction word problems.

After second recess and lunch, students wrote their homework in their agendas and then continued working on their math.

At the end of the day, students shared some fun and exciting activities that they did over the holiday!

Homework:
1.   Read for 20 minutes
2.     Addition and subtraction double sided sheet
3.     Math test next Wednesday
4.     Registration package due Feb. 11

5.     Science Centre forms due Jan. 15
