Magnificent Monday!

Check this out:

The deadline for afterschool forms has been moved to end of day Wednesday, September 28th.

Blossom Yoga (www.BlossomYogaKids.com)  with Ummul Patrawala is back at SJA.  First session starts on Wednesday Oct 5th.  Come ready to have fun, move, stretch and relax while exploring fun yoga games, creative breathing exercises, yoga art and yoga songs.  Here is a short video highlighting the fun and relaxing yoga classes that SJA kids have experienced in the past with Mrs. Patrawala. Stay Calm and Breathe On!

We began the day having French with Mlle. Jessica.

After we worked on our Math test.

We were then off to physical education with Mr. H.

When we returned, we continued working on our Math test.

Following first recess and lunch, we joined Ms. Biamas’ class to learn about animal adaptations. First we discussed the ways humans have adapted to our environment. “How do people change the way they live at different times of the year? What things do they do in the winter that they do not do in the summer?” “How do people in warm climates live differently than people cold climates?” Students then considered how animals survive in their environments. We looked at photos of various animals and we needed to figure out the adaptation features. “What does the animal do when the temperature turns colder? How does the animal protect itself from predators? What special features do the animal have to best fit its environment?” After this discussion, we watched a video to better understand animal adaptations. For example, camels have long eyelashes to keep the sand out of their eyes. Ask us what we learned!

After, we talked about how various animals adapted to their environment.  Some examples are: hibernation, wings, fins, camouflage. We then discussed in our groups why we think animals adapt. Here are some reasons we came up with: obtain food, keep safe (protection from predator), build homes, and withstand weather.

Following second recess and lunch, we reviewed the 10 learner profiles. Next, while reading Dear Tooth Fairy, we became detectives, trying to figure out the learner profile exhibited by the main character of the story, Holly. Holly was very curious and asked a lot of questions about the tooth fairy. Not only did she ask these questions, but also as an inquirer, she sought to find the answers to her questions by sending letters to the tooth fairy. We were then reflective, and thought about the various ways we seek the answers to our questions (ask the teacher, ask mom and dad, look on the internet, research in a book). We also discussed what we are curious about. We were excellent inquirers today!!!

At the end of the day, we worked on our lesson three words in our Spelling books.

1.     Read for 20 minutes
2.    Spelling pg. 13-16
