Wonderful Wednesday!

International Mindedness day January 23: parents are welcome to come and see all our wonderful projects from 2:30-3:30

We began the day beginning our new Novel Study: Freckle Juice. But who or what is Freckle Juice? We made predictions about who or what we think Freckle Juice is and what Freckly juice will…

We then had physical education with Ms. Lovan.

In Math we continued inquiring into subtraction. This time we were given three numbers and we needed to figure out how to subtract them. Our question: Helping feed the pigs is one of Hannah’s farm chores. She puts ears of corn in buckets for them. Bucket 1 has 37 ears. Bucket 2 has 41 ears. There are 95 ears of corn altogether. How many ears of corn in Bucket 3? This question was a bit tricky for us but we worked through it as a class. We knew that this was a subtraction question because we have been given the total amount of something; we knew there are 95 ears of corn altogether. Our next step: since there are already 37 ears of corn in bucket 1, they cannot be placed in bucket 3, so we need to subtract this amount from the total number of corn (95). Our answer was 58. Furthermore, there are already 41 ears of corn in bucket 2 therefore they also cannot be in bucket 3, so we need to subtract 41 from 58. We figured out that there are 17 ears of corn in bucket 3. We demonstrated our understanding with a similar question in our math books.

During UOI, we continued working on our bridges. We have one more day to get them all ready for a car to ride along.

After first recess and lunch we had French. When students returned, they wrote their homework in their agendas and then continued working on their bridges.

After second recess and lunch we continued working on our International Mindedness project about Nigeria. We learned interesting things about Nigeria: often the food is made with spices and peppers. We also learned that there are over 200 hundred languages spoken in Nigeria!!
