Wonderful Wednesday!!

My how the week is blowing by!!!

Today we began the day having fun with adjectives!!!! We had a classroom discussion about what makes all of us so wonderful and we are incorporating all those amazing describing words into an activity about us!! We drew ourselves and picked six or more adjectives to describer who we are. These wonderful pieces will be posted on our doors all year!

We then had French and then Gym.

After first recess and lunch we continued learning about patterns on a number line. Today we were number detectives!!!! Ms. Jaskolka only put up the number 0 and 100 on a piece of string and we needed to fill in the missing numbers! We had so much fun!!! We then showed our understanding using our math textbooks and working in partners.

After second recess and lunch we had the very important task of deciding whether or not math should be taught in our school. We understood that voting is a very important task and that we need to consider both sides when making a decision. Before Ms. Jaskolka told us the result of our vote, we watched a video to better understand how voting has changed and why voting is so important.  We also read a book Granddaddy’s turn: A journey to the ballot box. Michael and his father make a special trip into town for a very important event-Granddaddy is going to vote for the first time! But as Michael soon discovers, there is still a long way to go on the road to justice. Granddaddy was not able to vote because of the colour of his skin and we had a discussion about groups of peoples that have been excluded from the vote based on many factors such as gender and ethnicity.

We talked about the idea of what is fair and unfair and we decided that if we all live in one country together, everyone should be allowed to vote. We were very happy to learn that today in Canada everyone over the age of 18 is able to vote! We are very excited to have this opportunity one day! We were also very pleased when we heard the results of our vote today.
Our job was to decide if math should be taught at our school and the majority of our class said yes!!!
