A note from Ms. Gandy regarding March hot lunch orders
The lunch site is now open and will close Wednesday, February 26th at 3:00 PM sharp.

Special of the month: French Toast with Whipped Cream and Syrup

Caribou Math Contest
The next Caribou contest will be taking place Wednesday, February 26. Students are to arrive at 7:15 AM for a 7:30  start. They should bring their own charged devices. The interactive question for Grades 2-10 will be Bomb Defuser and for Grade 11/12 it will be GeomeTree requiring a construction involving lines and circles. Because Caribou’s GeomeTree site can be used to solve the interactive question, this site will be blocked at noon on Tuesday, February 25th. Both interactive questions are accessible from Caribou’s Games/History page.

Our next extra-curricular activity is skiing/snowboarding at Glen Eden Ski Resort. Our next trip is Wednesday, March 4. Please do not order lunch for these days; it will not be saved nor will a reimbursement be given. We will be leaving at 7:00 AM and returning by 4:00 PM at the latest. All rentals are included, however students are more than welcome to bring their own. Please do not order hot lunch for these days as we will be eating lunch at the ski hill – students are welcome to bring money to purchase food and drink items. Students must ensure they are dressed in appropriate ski gear; warm socks, long johns with comfy clothes, snow pants, warm mitts, a face protector (if possible) and a ski jacket. Please note that if students chose skiing, they will ski all three times. If students pick snowboarding, they will snowboard all three times. All students will have to pass each level before they are granted permission to ski on the big hill, no matter what their experience.

Contact Ms. Hughes at bsmith@stjudesacademy.com for any questions.

We began the day with music.

Next we had math.

Learning Goals: -converting fractions and decimals into percents and investigating outcomes of experiments

First we practiced skills needed for this unit: converting fractions and decimals into percents.

Then we reviewed what it means when an outcome is equally likely and how to represent this information using a tree diagram.

Example:

We did examples as a class and textbook questions.

Success Criteria:

-I can convert fractions into decimals
-I can convert decimals into percents

I understand that:
-an outcome is the possible result of an experiment or an action
-a tree diagram can be used to show the possible outcomes for an experiment that has two or more actions

I can:
-create a tree diagram based on the information given
-solve questions about possible outcomes using a tree diagram

After first recess and lunch we had French.

We spent the rest of the day working on our summative project.

We are using our understanding of the HDI (the Human Development Index) to determine the ranking of the countries of the world. Knowing this, we picked a country with a lower HDI for our next summative project. Students received the package that will guide them through this project, ‘The Ambassador’s Tea Party’. We went through the package, ensuring everyone understood the expectations.

Students began researching about the PEPS of their developing country in class. They are asked to complete half of the researching portion for homework.

At the end of the day we continued working on our 'caring' activity, writing down something kind about each of our classmates.

We also had students sharing information about Black History Month.

Homework:

1. Read Daily
2. Math pg. 407-8 Questions 1-6
3. French homework
4. Finish two boxes of research for UOI
