Marvelous Monday!

Manny and Chelsea have both been action stars!!

Manny taught us important facts and ways that we can help the environment from books he got from the library!

Chelsea spent some time in the rain, cleaning up garbage (plastic bottles , wet dirty tissues ,plastic bags , others ) !

Great action, friends!!

We began the day writing our homework in our agendas and then working on our Math Reviews. We have our math test tomorrow.

We then had physical education with Mr. Slyk.

When students returned, we worked together with Ms. DaCosta’s and Ms. Smith’s class to pack up all the batteries so that they will be sent to a recycling center so they will be recycled properly and remade instead of polluting our environment in a land fill.

After first recess and lunch, we began a special art project.

We then worked on our Spelling words for the week.

After we had French with Mdm. Stella.

After second recess and lunch, we watched a video that taught us more how to reuse, reduce, and recycle when shopping.

We learned that it is best to buy tomatoes on a vine instead of wrapped in plastic and in Styrofoam so we are reducing our waste. As well, it is best to buy in bulk (such as cereal) in order to reduce our waste. Specifically, it is much better to buy a cereal box made out of cardboard that has very little plastic because cardboard can decompose a lot quicker. We then wrote about the various ways we help our environment at home and what we recycle most at home in our Flip Flap Books.

At the end of the day, Manny shared with us how he has been an action star!
He taught us many important facts related to our current UOI unit and gave us various strategies as to how we can protect our planet. For example, he let us know that is it better for our planet to buy big boxes of juice versus individual juice boxes, because this way we are reducing the amount of waste with less packaging. We can use reusable bottles to put the juice in and this way we are reducing and reusing! When we are finished with the big box of juice, we can then recycle it. Great action Manny!
