We began the day with UOI. When students returned, we continued our inquiry into the media. We reviewed our “media in-a-day tally” sheet and charted our results.

We noticed that logos came up the most because we see them everywhere! We are also becoming more aware of the media we are surrounded by every day!

Examples of logos:

Afterwards, we looked at four different types of media and discussed the message and purpose:

Radio Commercial:

We then wrote an assessment to show Ms. Jaskolka what we know about our next unit: Time, Temperature, and Money.

Then we moved onto spelling. We wrote out our unit 7 spelling words and showed our understanding in our spelling books.

After first recess and lunch, we had physical education with Ms. Lovan.

In Math, we began our third unit: Time, Temperature, Money. First our focus will be time. We looked at a picture of a farm and students imagined that they were visiting a farm. They were asked: which takes more time: picking an apple or growing an apple from blossom to fruit? Which takes more time: riding a bus out to the apple farm or eating an apple? Which is colder: an apple on the tree or an apple in the refrigerator? Which is a warmer time: summer or spring? As a class we made up a story about going to the farm: We are going to visit the apple farm. First we will get on the bus. Then what will we do? As a class, we listed more things on the board.

We noticed how the events were all in order of when they happened. We discussed which takes the most time and the least time. Looking back at the picture of a farm, we talked about the season that we saw, which is fall. We spoke about the temperature; we knew it was a bit chilly because the people in the picture were wearing sweaters and scarves. Students also completed one page in their Math Makes Sense.

After, we continued working on our unit 7 spelling words.

Following second recess and lunch, we practiced cursive.

After, we began making our pumpkins that we described using adjectives last week. Here we are:
